1993 Cadillac Allanté
Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
When it debuted in 1987, General Motors called the Allanté “The New Spirit of Cadillac.” The limited production luxury convertible was conceived to compete against the Mercedes-Benz SL and Jaguar XJS. Famous Italian coachbuilder Pininfarina designed the Allanté body and manufactured the cars just outside of Turin, Italy. Specially equipped Boeing 747s flew 56 bodies at a time to Detroit for final assembly with a domestically manufactured drivetrain.
Launched in March 1987, Allanté rode on fully independent strut-type suspension with power rack and pinion steering, four-wheel power disc brakes with Bosch ABS, and an electronically controlled four-speed automatic. Interior features included multi-adjustable Recaro leather seats, digital graphic instrumentation, and Delco Bose AM/FM/cassette audio.
In 1993, the final and most popular year of Allanté production, the original 4.5-liter OHV V8 was replaced with Cadillac’s new 4.6-liter Northstar DOHC V8 with 32 valves. The performance increase was notable, and a stock 1993 Allanté was chosen as the Official Pace Car of the 76th Indianapolis 500 in 1992.
This 1993 Cadillac Allanté, finished in Polo Green paint, is a fine example of “The New Spirit of Cadillac.”
