Description
Although Jeep, International, and Ford had been making small off-road vehicles, it was General Motors that took the lead in scaling up small off-road-oriented, multi-purpose vehicles to the half-ton pickup platform with the introduction of the Chevrolet K5 Blazer in 1969. Essentially a K10 pickup with a short integral box as part of the interior, the K5 Blazer pioneered the pickup-based SUV.
By 1992, the beginning of the Blazer's third generation, GM redesigned its large SUVs and moved to the GMT400 architecture that had debuted for its 1988 pickup lines. Dimensions grew modestly for the six-passenger Blazer, the standard engine remained the 5.7-liter V8, and the cargo area received a fixed metal roof rather than fiberglass shell.
The original owner of this 1992 Chevrolet Blazer Silverado — one trim level above the standard Scottsdale — selected the optional Sport appearance package, which includes two-tone paint and wheel well flares. It is powered by an upgraded 5.7-liter four-barrel V8 that produces 290 horsepower.
