Description
The long-awaited successor to the “G-Series” Porsche 911 debuted in 1989 wearing form-fitting body-color bumpers and Porsche declaring it “85% new.” Offered in three different body styles (Coupe, Targa, and Cabriolet) and with two different drive configurations, the highly desirable sporting Coupe with its iconic roofline retailed for $60,700. All normally-aspirated 911s featured Porsche’s world-famous 3.6-liter flat-six. With its smooth, steady power delivery and raspy engine note, it produced a healthy 247 horsepower and 229 lb-ft of torque. Naturally, the automotive press was enamored; Car and Driver stated it is “... the ultimate production Porsche.” Once overlooked in the collector market for some time, the 964-generation 911 is now properly recognized as highly collectible and a significant development of the air-cooled, rear-engined platform, which would come to an end with the succeeding 993-generation just a few years later.
