1991 Bentley Continental
Description
“The Continental is the ultimate expression of the Bentley coachbuilding tradition. Each one takes up to six months to complete, for each panel is hand-finished using skills that have been handed down through generations.” — Bentley Motors Limited
The Continental name was first used by Bentley in the 1950s for a series of high-performance, luxury grand tourers. These cars were designed for long-distance, high-speed travel with a focus on comfort and performance. A reworked Bentley Continental debuted in 1989, with its most notable differences from the previous iteration being new alloy wheels, standard air bags, body-color bumpers, and a refined suspension system. Though fundamentally identical to the coach-crafted Rolls-Royce Corniche III, the Continental retained that sporting Bentley character.
The 1991 Bentley Continental continued this tradition. It featured a distinctive, aerodynamically shaped two-door convertible body and was equipped with a 6.75-liter V8 engine, backed by a GM-sourced three-speed automatic transmission, providing impressive power and smooth driving dynamics. The interior is trimmed in Connolly leather and rare burr walnut veneers. The result of this painstaking labor was unique in all the world. Said Bentley, “On any kind of day, there is no fast open tourer that stands in comparison with the Bentley Continental.”
