Description
The automobiles of Italian design house Pininfarina are known for displaying a certain timelessness, and the Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce (Veloce being the Italian word for fast or quick) certainly carried on that tradition.
Officially unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in 1966 as simply the Alfa Romeo Spider 1600, the open two-seater would undergo numerous changes over its nearly 30 years in production while retaining its original charm. Series 1 cars (1966-69) featured the mechanicals from the 105-Series Giulia sedan. Numerous styling changes appeared on Series 2 cars (1970-81), with the Spider’s distinctive “boat tail” revised to a Kamm tail for improved luggage space, along with a larger 2.0-liter engine. Series 3 (1982-89) Spiders brought further aesthetic tweaks, including rubber bumpers, a new rear spoiler, and Bosch L-Jetronic fuel injection. And the final, Series 4 iteration (1990-93) arrived in North America in 1991, bringing full-width body-colored plastic bumpers and rear taillights, Bosch Motronic fuel injection, power steering, and a front airbag among other refinements.
This handsome 1991 Alfa Romero Spider Veloce, wearing white paint over tan/black interior and tan leather and suede seats, is a prime example of Pininfarina’s timeless styling talent.
