Description
The High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV), commonly known as the Humvee, was developed by AM General in the early 1980s to replace older military vehicles like the M151 Jeep and the M561 "Gama Goat." Renowned for its versatility and durability, the Humvee gained acclaim during the Gulf War of 1991 for its performance in desert environments, which also inspired the civilian Hummer brand. In response to the increasing threat of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) during the Iraq War led to the U.S. Army initiated the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) program, culminating in the selection of the Oshkosh L-ATV in 2015.
