Description
Long known as the pinnacle of elegance, the Rolls-Royce Corniche was first introduced to the world in 1971. By 1986, Rolls-Royce debuted the updated Corniche II, built especially for the United States market. Named for the famed Grande Corniche road along the French Riviera above Monaco, the Mulliner Park Ward design was “shaped by hand,” as each Corniche II is said to have taken five months to create, with two weeks alone spent building and fitting the convertible’s top. Features included a high-tech cellular telephone, “memory” front seats, and a new center console. Naturally, Rolls-Royce did not forget to include their traditional luxuries such as the finest English Connolly leather, matching Lombardy cross-banded wood veneers, and Wilton lambswool carpeting. Despite its heft the Corniche II could reach 120 miles per hour thanks to its 6.75-liter V8 engine. The 1989 model included painted bumpers enhancing aesthetics. All of this elegance, luxury, and craftmanship did not come without substantial cost, and just 1,361 Corniche II were produced from 1986–1989.
Rolls-Royce dubbed the Corniche II “The Ultimate Convertible” rightfully noting that, “The Corniche II is designed for the person who wants to combine top-down motoring with the ultimate in elegance and luxury.”
