Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
“Jaguars and the rich seek each other out as surely as the sun seeks high noon,” Motor Trend wrote in 1989. “... Like strawberries and cream or Moët and beluga, Jaguars and the well-to-do just seem to go together. The 1989 Vanden Plas continues this tradition.”
Jaguar’s third-generation XJ6 — especially in Vanden Plas form — received high marks from owners and reviewers for its performance, reliability, and comfort. The Vanden Plas model added extra plushness with a number of interior upgrades and some additional exterior trim. The big sedan’s inline six-cylinder engine saw an increase in compression ratio from 8.2 to 9.6:1, which raised the horsepower from 181 to 195 and increased the torque from 221 to 232 lb-ft. Coupled with a rear-axle-ratio change (to 3.58:1), the Jaguar improved its zero to 60 time by a full two seconds over the 1987 XJ6. Naturally, the abundance of performance and luxury came at a steep price, with the 1989 Jaguar XJ6 Vanden Plas retailing at $48,000, or approximately $121,373 today.
