Description
The Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit and its extended version, the Silver Spur, succeeded the Silver Shadow and Silver Wraith models starting in 1980. These cars retained the monocoque design introduced by the Shadow in 1967 but underwent a significant redesign under the guidance of Austrian stylist Fritz Feller, resulting in a more streamlined and less angular appearance. Notably, they were the first Rolls-Royces to feature the retractable Spirit of Ecstasy hood ornament, which retracts into the radiator shell.
Initially equipped with a 220 horsepower, 6.75-liter aluminum V8 engine with twin SU carburetors, models exported to the U.S. and Japan exclusively used Bosch fuel injection from the outset. Eventually, Bosch fuel injection became standard across all markets by 1986. Over their production span, the Silver Spirit and Silver Spur underwent four iterations, known as Marks, with numerous updates and modifications introduced incrementally.
