11k-Mile 1988 Pontiac Fiero GT
Description
First introduced in 1984, the Pontiac Fiero would undergo a radical development cycle during its four years in production. Sufficient power arrived in 1985 in the form of a HO 2.8-liter V6, which was paired with a new, German-built Getrag five-speed manual transmission from June 1986 on. That year also saw the introduction of a sleek fastback roofline in GT trim, with improvements to the oil pan and engine cooling arriving for 1987. Finally, the Fiero was beginning to resemble the spritely sports car its designers had envisioned, investing a further 30 million dollars in 1988 alone to deliver a completely redesigned suspension system for what would be the Fiero’s final model year. The 1988 Fiero GT was the car that Pontiac originally set out to build, with the power and handling credentials to match its stunning looks. As a result, collectors have gravitated toward final-model-year Fieros, especially the approximately 6,849 GT Coupe models equipped with the all-important WS6 Special Performance suspension like the car on offer.
