Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
In typical Mercedes-Benz fashion, the 560 SL has a reputation as a powerful, reliable, well-appointed, classically styled luxury automobile. The 560SL was the last in the venerable “R107” series which ran from 1972–1989. Starting in 1986, Mercedes shipped a more powerful 560 SL with its new 5.5-liter V8 engine delivering 227 horsepower and 287 lb-ft of torque, giving a top speed of about 140 miles per hour. Never resting on its laurels, Mercedes-Benz gave these later 560 SL models a new rear suspension, a limited-slip differential, anti-lock brakes, leather upholstery, an alarm system, and an airbag. A color-matched factory hardtop transforms the car from an open roadster to a sleek coupe. Mercedes sold an impressive 11,964 560 SL stateside in 1987, and Car and Driver said of them, “The SL is powerful, it's nicely screwed together, and it oozes prestige.” Isn’t that what makes a Mercedes-Benz?
