Description
Performance cars were few in the 1980s, but the Monte Carlo SS delivered the goods. Enthusiasts took notice in 1983 when a Super Sport package called the Z65 was introduced on Chevrolet’s popular personal luxury Monte Carlo. The Monte Carlo SS included a smooth new front fascia and rear spoiler, which helped Bobby Allison win the 1983 NASCAR championship and a young Dale Earnhardt capture victory at Talladega in 1984. Built from 1983 through 1988, the Monte Carlo SS was powered by Chevy’s famous small-block V8 in 305 cu-in form using a four-barrel carburetor, which the TV show Motorweek reported, “This is one fast 3500 pound coupe.” In 1985 optional T-tops were added to the SS as well as a four-speed overdrive automatic transmission with a 3.73 rear axle. Changes were minimal for 1986, yet it would be the most popular year for the SS with 41,164 produced.
Finished in Black with Maroon cloth interior, this two-owner low mileage 1986 Monte Carlo SS is said to have been garage kept all its known existence and remains in original condition. Pampered and preserved, this Monte Carlo SS is still delivering the goods.
