Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
Beginning in 1979, the W126 S-Class become Mercedes-Benz’s true luxury flagship. The 500 SEC was the four-passenger coupe variant of the S-Class, featuring a sleek, pillarless Bruno Sacco design that exuded elegance and sophistication.
The 500 SEC was powered by the M117 5.0-liter V8 engine, backed by a three-speed automatic. The W126 S-Class showed a newfound focus on aerodynamics and fuel-efficiency, with a coefficient of drag 14 percent better than the previous model. Traction control and anti-lock brakes (ABS) was included, both of which were cutting-edge at the time.
Mercedes-Benz’s commitment to luxury and comfort was reflected in the 500 SEC’s leather upholstery and real wood trim, along with a host of amenities such as power-adjustable seats, climate control, and an advanced sound system. Safety and occupant protection were also unparalleled, with a driver airbag offered as were seatbelt pretensioners.
Britain’s MotorSport magazine concluded, “On the road the 500SEC exudes that quiet Germanic efficiency which makes the driver feel superfluous. The Mercedes-Benz 500 SEC may not be the most overtly exciting car in the world, but in terms of constructional integrity, superb finish and all-round value, it must rank very close to the best that money can buy.”
