303-Mile 1984 Chevrolet Camaro Z28
Description
Chevrolet’s 1984 brochure said it all: “Camaro Z28. Number One on the Camaro Performance Team.” Everything about the third-generation Camaro, produced from 1982 to 1992, was shaped by the times. With engines capable of less the horsepower from its glory days of the 1960s, Chevrolet had to build a new Camaro that was smaller, lighter, and more aerodynamic, with a slim and angular design that shaved seven inches off its wheelbase and eliminated 500 pounds.
Thanks to its large glass hatchback and folding rear seats, the new Camaro was also more practical than its predecessors. Three Camaro models were offered in 1984, including the Z28 performance machines powered by Chevy’s 305 cu-in V8 with Rochester 4-barrel carburetor. Chevy called the Z28 “engineered for total response.” They claimed the “front, ‘setback-engine’ design and rear-wheel-drive configuration permit advanced performance parameters to be integrated with optimal riding comfort.”
This thoroughly modern design resulted in a pony car Car and Driver magazine declared “the best handling American car of 1984.” They reported, “Everybody agreed that the Z28 had a delightful combination of tight adhesion, telegraphic controls, manageable response, and forgiving limits.” And this 1984 Z28 Camaro is offered with a remarkable 303 actual miles.
