Description
1982 marked the first lap of Firebird's third generation, adopting aerodynamic styling and weight reduction to keep up with expectations of the time. Buyers had the choice of a wide array of power plants ranging from the 2.5-liter "Iron Duke" rated at 90 horsepower, a 2.8-liter V6 rated at 105 horsepower, or a 5.0-liter V8 engine with a carburetor or GM's new "Crossfire Fuel Injection, " and available in three distinct trim levels: Base, S/E, and Trans Am. The third-generation Firebird also saw the silver screen as the hero car in "Smokey and the Bandit III" and gained a cult following from its appearance as KITT in the hit TV show "Knight Rider." Today, the third generation Firebird stands as an excellent gateway to car collecting, with an affordable cost to entry and plentiful parts availability.
