Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
After the U.S. endured two OPEC-induced fuel shortages, fuel economy was a priority for Ford's all-new 1980 pickups, which were the first in the industry to factor lighter weight along with aerodynamics into the styling. While still a full-sized truck, Ford pickups were slimmed down to include thinner gauge body steel and glass. This produced a taught, neatly styled truck that has aged well.
The 1980 Ford F-150 marked the beginning of the seventh generation of Ford's F-Series trucks. In addition to a more aerodynamic design, the new F-150 featured sharper lines, a new square grille, and a lower, narrower stance compared to its predecessors. Under the hood, the standard engine was a 300 cubic-inch inline-six, but most buyers opted for a 302 or 351 V8. Trim levels ranged from the base Custom to the Ranger, Ranger XLT, and top-of-the-line Ranger Lariat.
One of the notable innovations on the 1980 F-150 was the introduction of the Twin-Traction Beam independent front suspension on four-wheel-drive models, which improved off-road capability without sacrificing durability. The interior saw updates as well, with a new dash design, better sound insulation, and an interior hood release.
