1973 Lincoln Mark IV Walk Around
Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
In September 1965, fresh off the massive success of the Mustang, Ford President Lee Iacocca authorized Ford’s Advance Design Office to create a two-door personal car for the luxury sector. The coupe received a long hood, a tall Rolls-Royce-style grille, and short rear deck, with an integrated continental spare tire that was ordered by Iacocca himself.
Continuing into the 1970s, the third-generation Mark IV (1972-1976) grew in size over its Continental Mark III predecessor, gaining three inches in wheelbase, seven inches in overall length, and three inches in width. Like the Mark III, the Mark IV shared its chassis with the Ford Thunderbird but received its own bodywork, which included sharp-edged fenders and hidden headlamps.
All Mark IVs were equipped with a vinyl roof, and the third-generation Mark introduced a rear side window, marketed as an "opera window.” The feature remained through the Mark VI, which was discontinued after 1983. Interestingly, the Lincoln Mark IV’s Continental spare tire trunk lid was for looks only; in fact, the spare tire is stored immediately behind the rear seat.
