Description

As classic European sports cars go the early “longhood” Porsche 911 is about as classic as they come. Available with a variety of engine sizes, two different body styles, and a seemingly endless amount of fantastic color choices, the 911 is the result of Porsche’s tireless efforts to improve the breed through racing. Constructed with competition-level technology, Porsche endowed the 911 with forged aluminum wheels, dry-sump lubrication, torsion bar suspension, a dog-leg transmission, and a lightweight magnesium engine case.

Car and Driver magazine (February 1972) tested a Porsche 911 T with its newly increased displacement, up from 2195 to 2341cc, and new Bosch fuel injection. They reported, “Never before could the 911 be classified as a high-powered car; now it can. For Porsche, 1972 is a vintage year.”

As a result of the 911’s sporting nature and competition breeding, many early models have been modified in some way, with original, preserved examples rarer with each passing year. This 1972 911 T Coupe is mostly original and has the care of just three owners from new and with the current caretaker for 27 years.

Ownership History

The consignor states, “We have owned this Porsche 911 T for about 27 years. We have all the service records provided at the time of purchase, and any subsequent records. We had the engine overhauled at University Imports, Davis, California, about 6 months ago. We have always maintained the car indoors. We have basically only enjoyed driving it for leisure.”
