Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
Designed by legendary GM designer Bill Porter, the second-generation Firebird was introduced midway through the 1970 model year. In contrast to the first-generation, second-gen Firebirds wore dramatic, European-influenced bodywork with long hoods and fastback rear ends. But those who wanted something more aggressive and more capable than the base car turned to the Firebird Formula.
The high-performance Formula was offered with three V8s: while some were built with 455s, most were ordered with 350 or 400 cubic-inch mills. The Formula 400 got an L78 400 V8, with a choice of automatic or four-speed manual transmissions. And while it stood out with big hood scoops and a dual exhaust system, the Formula’s ultimate goal was corner carving: it wore firmer springs and shocks, thicker front and rear stabilizer bars, and wide F70-14 tires that greatly increased its grip around corners. Today, Formula 400s are regarded as some of the most well-rounded, cleanest-looking muscle cars on the market.
This 1972 Firebird Formula 400 is PHS documented and retains its classic muscle car looks. However, its body and drivetrain has been stripped, sanded, and repainted, and its interior has been completely redone, resulting in an incredibly clean example of this timeless Pontiac.
