1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass 4-4-2 Driving

1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass 4-4-2 Walk Around
Description
In the 1960s, Oldsmobile muscle cars made 4-4-2 well known as a four-barrel carburetor, four-speed manual transmission, and two exhaust pipes. This performance package started on midsized, V8-powered 1964 F-85s. And when Oldsmobile’s A-bodies received a curvy redesign in 1968, the 4-4-2 became its own model. In 1970, the 4-4-2’s engine grew to 455 cubic inches, and in 1971, the body was enhanced with a larger grille opening and round marker lights.
When 1972 dawned, the planned colonnade body style was delayed a year; instead, minor refinements were added, including painted headlight bezels and black (instead of red) W-30 fender wells. Olds had again made the 4-4-2 a Cutlass option package, known as W-29, available on four Cutlass body styles. And while a 350 cu-in mill was available in 4-4-2s this year, the 455 could also be had in regular and W-30 trims. And so, with its sensuous bodywork intact, enthusiasts bought nearly 10,000 W-29-equipped cars in 1972.
This clean 4-4-2 Convertible W-29 packs the desirable 455 V8, making it one of only 928 455-powered droptops built in 1972.
