1972 MG Midget
Description
When introduced in October 1966 for the 1967 model year, the third generation of the MG Midget continued its evolution in the words of MG as “the smallest real sports car.” The engine was upgraded to a 1,275 cc version of the venerable BMC A-series engine from the Mini Cooper S, rated at 65 horsepower. This newfound performance was able to propel the Midget to 60 mph in 14.7 seconds, on its way to its 94 mph top speed. Another welcome upgrade was a completely redesigned convertible top that easily folded away when not in use compared to the previous generation, which had to be dismantled and stored in the trunk. Due in part to its attractively affordable entry price when new, the Mk III Midget was the most popular generation with over 100,000 produced before it was replaced by the next generation Mk IV in 1975, and are still beloved by automotive enthusiasts today.
