Description
The Ford Mustang Mach 1 variant — first introduced in August 1968 for the 1969 model year — was designed to bridge the gap between the standard Mustang and the high-performance Shelby models. The first Mach 1 featured a distinctive design with a matte-black hood treatment, hood pins, and a hood scoop, along with optional front and rear spoilers and rear window louvers, and it could be had with a range of powerful V8 engines.
Throughout the early 1970s, the Mach 1 continued to evolve, and the 1971 model year introduced a larger, more aggressive body style, with the Mustang growing in both length and width. This redesign aimed to accommodate larger engines and enhance the car's performance capabilities.
Available exclusively in the "SportsRoof" fastback body style, it featured distinctive styling elements such as a color-keyed urethane front bumper, honeycomb grille, unique Mach 1 decals, and a dual-scoop hood that could be ordered with the Ram Air option to make the scoops functional. Under the hood, the Mach 1's base engine was the 302 Windsor V8, but the original buyer of this one chose a 285-horsepower, 351 cubic-inch Cleveland V8. The current owner believes the car is all original except for its Kenwood stereo.
