1970 Plymouth 'Cuda 440-6 Coupe Driving
Description
A muscle car legend was born when Plymouth debuted the completely redesigned E-Body Barracuda for the 1970 model year, initially available in three varieties: the standard Barracuda, luxury Grand Coupe, or high-performance 'Cuda. 'Cuda buyers were able to upgrade from a 340 cu-in V8 all the way up to the costly fire-breathing 426 cu-in Hemi engine. But outside of all-out racing, the optional 440 “Six Barrel” engine was actually a better performer than the legendary Hemi, its 390 horsepower at 4,700 rpm and 490 lb-ft of torque at 3,200 rpm in a more useful range for street use, and the tri-carb setup improved fuel economy. Add the optional I.Q.E.C.A.G. (Incredible Quivering Exposed Cold Air Grabber) air intake as well as five extra-cost “HIGH IMPACT COLOR” exterior finishes, and you had a machine that “is mean and lean this year, with bulges where they ought to be…” wrote Motorcade magazine.
This 'Cuda 440-6 was built in Los Angeles for the California market and is equipped with the desirable four-speed manual transmission and “Pistol Grip” shifter, performance Super Track Pak option with Dana 4.10:1 rear and heavy-duty suspension, and that unmistakable Limelight paint with Black vinyl interior, all as ordered from the factory.
