455-Powered 1969 Oldsmobile 4-4-2 Coupe 4x4 Idling
Description
It’s fitting that this 1969 4-4-2 and the fictional mad scientist Dr. Oldsmobile debuted the same year. A groovy creation of the Olds marketing department, Dr. Oldsmobile breathed life into the brand’s 4-4-2 muscle cars. Of course, the 4-4-2 performance option had been around since 1964 on V8-powered F-85 models, of which the Cutlass was the highest trim level. A 400-inch mill bowed in 1965, the Cutlass became its own model in 1966, and the street W-30 package featuring sealed cold air induction was released in 1967.
But things really got wild when the bodywork got curvy: The 4-4-2 also went from an option to its own model in 1968, and in 1969 the 4-4-2 W-30 got a high-compression, 400 cu-in V8 breathing through big-valve D-code heads. It produced an underrated 360 horses, and lived in a body featuring bright colors, big scoops, and a large, comfortable interior.
However, even Dr. Oldsmobile couldn’t have dreamed this one up. Built to fit a four-wheel drive system and powered by a 455-inch V8, this wild, lifted 1969 4-4-2 still has the good looks to compete in a car show. At the top of a mountain, if you like.

Ownership History
The owner states that this 1969 Oldsmobile 442 started life at the Linden, New Jersey plant as a two-door Holiday Coupe. It lived in New York and Missouri before being sent to Indianapolis, where the 455 was overhauled and the chassis was converted to 4x4. It was on the way home when a man from Illinois traded a monster truck for it, after which the current owner traded his ’35 Ford hot rod for this Oldsmobile.
