1969 AMC AMX Idle
Description
The AMC AMX, produced from 1968 to 1970, was a standout in the American muscle car scene, offering a unique two-seater design that competed directly with the Chevrolet Corvette at a more accessible price point. Built on the Javelin platform but with a shorter wheelbase and rear seat deletion, the AMX boasted a sleek coupe profile accentuated by its fixed rear quarter windows. Sporting either the standard 290 cubic inch or optional 390 cubic inch AMC V8 engine, it delivered the thrilling performance expected from a muscle car of its time. Despite positive reception from automotive media and enthusiasts, sales remained modest, yet the AMX played a crucial role in reshaping AMC's image toward performance and attracting a younger clientele. Though its tenure as a two-seater was brief, the AMC AMX left an enduring mark on the muscle car landscape, showcasing American innovation and flair for high-performance driving experiences.

The current owner of this 1969 AMC AMX purchased the car from Hagerty Marketplace Auctions on 30 June 2023. Prior to that, the previous owner reports that the car was under the care of its original owner when it was placed into storage in 2001 and remained there until it was acquired by the next owner in September 2007, with just 67,000 miles on the odometer at the time. They purchased the car in December 2007 following the completion of recommissioning work completed by the previous owner.
