1968 Chevrolet Camaro Walkaround
Description
The Chevrolet Camaro was devised as a counterpunch to the famous Ford Mustang, and in the process it became a performance icon itself. GM had been forced to watch the massive success of the Mustang with nothing of its own to counter it and immediately deemed it necessary to respond in kind. A pony car was approved in 1964 and was ready for the 1967 model year. It was an instant hit.
It’s no wonder, then, that changes for 1968 were subtle and thoughtful. For example, the vent windows that framed the A-pillars were eliminated. Since there were no longer the “smoker” windows, Chevy had to do something about getting airflow to the driver. GM installed air vents below the dash; a feature it called “Astro-Ventilation.” Shocks were staggered to get rid of a wheel hop issue. And if you went for the top performance models, multi-leaf rear suspension replaced the single-leaf rear setup. Also, NHTSA mandated that all ’68 cars include side marker lights at the front and rear quarters.
This 1968 Camaro is not the same car it was when it left the factory, as a high-performance 350 cu-in small-block V8 has been installed, along with a slew of other performance and appearance upgrades.

Ownership History
The consigner purchased this 1968 Chevrolet Camaro in 2014 from a shop that had been working on it but didn’t have time to finish. Over the next three to four years, the car was in California, where a friend of the consigner performed metal work in his home shop. In 2018 it was shipped to Georgia, where paint and interior work was done and the restoration completed.
