Description
The new 1967 Plymouth Barracuda was a striking contrast to the old Valiant-based version. Car Life magazine went so far as to proclaim the new Barracuda “… has a tautness of line and an integrity of design unmatched by few American cars of any vintage.” Like the ’67 Mustang it would compete against, the Barracuda would have coupe and convertible variants, as well as the original fastback body.
You could get the new Barracuda with the optional big 383 V8, but many agree the best option was the new performance LA 340 cu-in engine, one of the finest small-block V8s of the era. Barracuda and 340 power were the combination that drove Sally and Dennis Koelmel to a SCCA National Rally Championship and countless drag racers to Stock class victories. It’s also the combo presented in this well-presented ’67 Barracuda Hardtop Coupe.
Originally a six-cylinder three-on-the-tree car painted Soft Yellow, it was transformed some time ago into its present 340 automatic form. As Plymouth said of the 1967 Barracuda with 340 motivation, “Climb in, start one up, and — wham!”
