1967 Morris Mk II Mini Cooper
Description
The 1967 Morris Mk II Mini Cooper represented a significant update to the beloved Mini Cooper line, which was introduced in 1961. The Mk II version, produced from October 1967 to 1970, featured several key improvements that enhanced both its performance and appeal.
One of the more noticeable changes was a redesigned exterior that included a new grille and larger, more angular taillights. Additionally, the turning circle was improved, making the car even more maneuverable in tight spaces. The Mk II Mini Cooper also employed Hydrolastic suspension, which replaced traditional springs and dampers with fluid-filled displacer units that are interconnected between the front and rear wheels on each side.
Under the hood, the Mk II continued to offer the 998cc A-Series inline-four engine that produced about 55 horsepower. The mill was mated to a four-speed synchromesh manual transmission, which used a remote wand shifter in which the gear lever is connected to the gearbox via a remote linkage, rather than being directly mounted on top of the gearbox.
All of these aesthetic and mechanical characteristics helped make the Mini Cooper a quaint and popular antithesis to the muscle cars and luxury sedans of the era.
