Description

From Florida to France, Ford’s GT40 race cars turned in brilliant performances in the mid-1960s. And on cue, many a red-blooded gearhead lusted over their seductive lines, purposeful scoops, and incredible power. The problem? If you ever managed to find one for sale, they were incredibly expensive to buy. However, a kit car manufacturer called Fiberfab started building cars around the time the GT40s started dominating the competition, and it had a solution: a car with exotic GT40 looks, without the steep GT40 price tag.

Fiberfab’s flagship was the Valkyrie, released in 1966. Its fiberglass body looked enticingly similar to Ford’s racecar, its various custom frames accepted Corvair, Mustang II, and ZF parts, and best of all, it could be powered by a good old-fashioned American V8. The Valkyrie was available turnkey or as a body and frame kit for home assembly, and it ended up being a highly successful kit car.

This red and white 1967 Valkyrie is powered by a 327 cu-in V8 and shifted by a four-speed manual. Its 327 is visible from the driver’s seat, topped by an EFI induction system with velocity stacks, and controlled with a sophisticated aftermarket ECU.
