Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
Like the Beetle, the Volkswagen Type 2 Transporter is a true "World Car." It’s likely to be found in far-flung places like Katmandu, as it is in Pebble Beach, thanks to their robust practicality in various forms, from a commercial panel van, single or double cab pickup truck, and passenger "Microbus" in both standard and deluxe trim levels. By the 1960s, these air-cooled Volkswagens had become ingrained in Southern California's laid-back lifestyle and were used around the world as practical and dependable transportation. Motor Trend magazine described the Microbus as "more of a way of life than just another car..." As the appeal spread throughout the country, a devout enthusiast group was born that continues with a broad support base today. Through examples like the one on offer today, it is easy to understand the appeal that has lasted throughout the ages.
This lot is offered Without Reserve from The Roger Boman Collection, which comprises 27 vehicles ranging from European to American classics. Many examples within the collection feature Mr. Boman’s standard modification “formula,” including but not limited to the addition of disc brakes, air conditioning, modern fuel injection, and many other custom touches seen by countless enthusiasts around the Fresno, California area who shared the late owner’s passion for this unique assortment of automobiles.
