1964 Ford Thunderbird Convertible
Description
The Thunderbird embarked on its fourth consecutive three-year cycle with a freshened appearance in 1964 that leaned toward a more angular and squared-off look, notably apparent when observing the car from its side or rear angles. Echoing elements from the prior generation of Thunderbird, the new model preserved a familiar grille design featuring quad headlights, all within the confines of a 113.2 inch wheelbase.
This iteration retained the familiar unitized structure introduced in 1958, accompanied by a robust 300 horsepower 390 cu-in V8 engine mated to a Cruise-O-Matic automatic transmission. Continuing the trend from the previous year, standard features included power steering and brakes. While the beloved sports roadster did not make a return, the option for a dealer-installed tonneau cover in 1964 sought to evoke the cherished memories of the two-seat model.
