Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
Drawing inspiration from the Oldsmobile Golden Rocket, Chevrolet's Corvette entered its "solid axle" phase in 1956 with a fresh design featuring quad headlamps and striking side coves. The 1961 model introduced twin taillights, a design element that remains a Corvette staple. Additionally, a new boat-tail design debuted in 1961, continuing into the C2 generation. The 1962 Corvette ushered in a significant performance leap with an enlarged small-block V8 engine, growing from 283 to 327 cubic inches and starting at 250 hp with a single four-barrel carburetor to a maximum of 340 horsepower before opting for fuel injection. This model year introduced hydraulic valve lifters. Notably, 1962 was the final year for the solid-rear-axle suspension, a staple since the Corvette's inception. This year also introduced rocker panel trim and marked the last appearance of exposed headlights until 2005. Finished in Omaha Orange paint on a black vinyl interior complete with a matching padded instrument panel, assist bar, deep stowage bin and heater. Today, collectors are drawn to these later C1 models for their enhanced performance and sleek design, marking the final chapter of the solid axle era in the Corvette legacy.
This lot is offered Without Reserve from The Roger Boman Collection, which comprises 27 vehicles ranging from European to American classics. Many examples within the collection feature Mr. Boman’s standard modification “formula,” including but not limited to the addition of disc brakes, air conditioning, modern fuel injection, and many other custom touches seen by countless enthusiasts around the Fresno, California area who shared the late owner’s passion for this unique assortment of automobiles.
