Description

OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE

By 1959, Chevrolet’s flagship Corvette had evolved into a truly world-class sports car. New design leader Bill Mitchell cleaned up the excesses of the 1958 Corvette, removing the faux hood louvers and large chrome “spears” from the trunk lid. However, the best features remained, and on this Corvette that includes the powerful yet tractable 283 cu-in, 270 horsepower V8 engine featuring dual Carter four-barrel carburetors, a $182.00 option. Power flows through the smooth, fully synchromesh four-speed manual transmission, a $188.30 option. The interior seats were updated that year, with Road & Track calling them “now among the most comfortable seats in any car, sports or otherwise.” Passengers also appreciated the new “grab rail” to hold on to, and with zero-to-60 mph in around seven seconds and a performance-tuned suspension, it got good use.  Built in June 1959, this Corvette is trimmed in elegant and optional Tuxedo Black paint with Inca Silver coves and white soft top. It is believed to be an older restoration but is well presented, especially since the interior was recently updated from black to striking red vinyl. The engine is period-correct and possibly original. As Chevrolet said of the 1959 Corvette: “You’ll discover the fine art of sports car driving.”
