Description

Is there anything more mid-century classic than a 1957 Chevy Bel Air Sport Coupe? The Jet Age was here, and the Space Age was near in 1957, and the longer, lower Bel Air reflected that. The quarter panels were inspired by the tail section of an F-86 fighter jet, while the distinctive headlight bezels were designed to emulate jet engine intakes. Even the engine was new, now a 283 cubic-inch V8.

But lurking beneath this beautifully restored Bel Air is an Art Morrison GT Sport chassis packing four-wheel coil-over suspension, power rack-and-pinion steering, and Wilwood four-wheel power disc brakes with drilled rotors. In back is a four-link rear suspension with Strange rear axle. Morrison claims their chassis features a stable roll center, contemporary stance, improved camber control, and optimum ground clearance that delivers contemporary driving dynamics. That is exactly what is needed since this Bel Air is powered by a Magnuson supercharged Corvette LS6 346 cu-in V8 engine through a Tremec six-speed manual transmission. The rear wheel wells have been mildly tubbed to allow room for the Nitto NT555 G2 275/40ZR18 rear tires. Inside is a custom leather bucket seat interior. Classic looks with modern performance, that’s mid-century modern!
