1956 Ford F-100 Engine Bay Viewing
Description
The second generation of Ford’s F-Series truck line, built from 1953 to 1956, was one of the first post-war pickups to gain collector status. But in the 1950s, Ford had ergonomics—not collectability—in mind when it reportedly spent $30 million on what appeared to be Detroit's earliest application of a truck ergonomic study. The result of that study was the 1953 F-100's “Driver Engineered” cab, which was created using the “Measuring Man,” a life-size model of Average Joe Trucker. “Driverized” features included improved control locations, sound deadener in the doors, and an even wider seat. Also new was an enlarged one-piece windshield for added visibility.
But while a comfortable seating position, easy-to-reach knobs, and a good view was important, the second-gen F-100’s timeless styling is the reason why enthusiasts still lust over them today.
This bright red 1956 F-100 underwent a frame-up restoration in 2022, features an upgraded Ford V8 and automatic transmission for reliable cruising, and offers creature comforts like air conditioning, power brakes, and power steering.
