1956 Ford Customline Victoria Hardtop Coupe
Description
Seven years after Ford’s war effort ended, an all-new model broke cover in 1952. Eleven body styles were available across the low-level Mainline, mid-level Customline, and high-level Crestline trims. The styling was fresh, with jet age accents. The visibility was excellent, with a curved windshield and large windows. And the ride was smooth, with a longer chassis and Automatic Ride Control suspension. A 101-hp six-cylinder, or 110-hp flathead V8 were available, along with manual, automatic, and overdrive transmissions.
Over the next few years, Ford replaced the flathead with a new Y-block V8, updated the chassis and suspension, and added power options. But when the Thunderbird launched in 1955, the Customline got T-Bird styling cues like a new grille, sleek side trim, and jet-exhaust taillamps. And Ford added the Customline Victoria Hardtop Coupe, a 225-hp V8 option, a 12-volt electrical system, “Luxury Lounge” interiors, and optional air conditioning for the final year. The 1956 model might have sat two inches lower, but it was the pinnacle of Customline’s five-year, 2.6-million-car run.
This 1956 Customline Victoria Hardtop Coupe is in near-stock condition. And its eye-catching paint and bold styling—which took the fight to Chevrolet nearly 70 years ago—is still timeless.
