Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
The luxurious Roadmaster was Buick’s flagship model from 1936-58 (except during World War II, when civilian automobile production was halted). The early models featured elegant designs with sweeping fenders and chrome accents, embodying the Art Deco style of the era. By the 1940s, the Roadmaster had evolved into a larger, more luxurious vehicle, and the ’49 model introduced Buick’s famous “VentiPorts” on the front fenders, which became a signature design element.
The 1950s brought further innovation, with the Roadmaster adopting a more modern look, including the iconic “Dagmar” bumpers and panoramic windshields. One of the more notable models was the 1956 Roadmaster, which received a mild facelift with a new grille, revamped chrome trim, and taillights, and could be had in attractive two-tone paint.
The desirable Roadmaster Convertible (Model 76C) featured a 255-horsepower, 322 cubic-inch V8 engine mated to a Variable-Pitch Dynaflow Drive automatic transmission. Of the 572,024 Buicks built for the ’56 model year, less than one percent (4,354) were Roadmaster Convertibles.
