Chevy Powered 1953 MG TD Walk-around
Description
The pre-war MG TA sparked the iconic T-Series that introduced MG’s immediately recognizable radiator design, the swept fenders, running boards, folding windscreen, and large accessible bonnet. After the progressive improvements of the post-war TB and TC, the new MG TD was designed and engineered with updated styling, better turning and handling, a smoother ride, and a 1,250cc inline-four cylinder engine producing 57.5 horsepower.
While truly fun to drive right from the factory, road racers, drag racers and others with the need for speed discovered the MG TD as a platform for fantastic Fifties performance. Some supercharged the four-cylinder engine, others discovered the Ford “flathead” V8 fit just fine, then later Chevrolet’s famous “small block” V8 found a home in the TD. This 1953 MG TD is a throwback to that wonderful time, powered by a stroked 383 cu-in Chevy V8 with a Turbo 350 automatic transmission. A Ford nine inch differential delivers the power, while MGB front disc brakes stop it. Like those hopped-up MGs of the past, this TD carries on the tradition of fun Fifties-era performance.
