Description

OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE

In 1949, Chevrolet underwent a significant transformation with the introduction of a brand-new lineup of passenger cars characterized by modern full-width bodies and sleek pontoon fenders, effectively bidding farewell to its prewar designs. This move saw the debut of Special and Deluxe models within both the Fleetline and Styleline series, offering a diverse array of options to cater to various budgets and preferences. Under the hood, Chevrolet equipped these models with a robust 216 cu-in six-cylinder engine paired with a three-speed manual transmission, ensuring reliable performance on the road. Building on this foundation, Chevrolet continued to innovate, unveiling the iconic Bel Air two-door hardtop and introducing the revolutionary “Powerglide” two-speed automatic transmission in 1950, further enhancing the driving experience for customers. By 1952, Chevrolet's commitment to innovation was evident in the expanded range of colors and combinations offered, providing customers with unprecedented freedom to personalize their vehicles. Notably, the Deluxe convertible and Bel Air hardtops gained widespread acclaim, thanks in part to the restyled grille featuring five vertical "teeth," addressing previous criticisms and solidifying Chevrolet's reputation for delivering stylish and desirable automobiles.

Robert A. Jones, a successful businessman and second-generation leader of the still going concern, Jones Brothers Contracting of Mount Juliet, Tennessee, had an innate understanding of the many heavy duty machines that were a part of the family business.  Early on, Mr. Jones turned that knowledge into a passion for road cars and acquired his first collector car in 1969, at the age of 35 — the famous Ford Model T.  That single and simple pre-war car sparked a passion that never tempered for Mr. Jones and eventually, influenced by the more common Jones family marque of choice, his passions would burn even brighter for early Chevrolets.  As his collection grew and changed over the years, his interests were focused on displaying the cars at regional shows and concours, as well as still driving many of his road-worthy classics.  Hagerty Marketplace is proud to offer The Jones Collection, entirely without reserve, comprising some long-treasured vehicles from his personal collection.
