Description
Named the XK120 for its claimed 120 mph top speed, Sir William Lyons’ Jaguar roadster caused a sensation upon its debut at the 1948 London Motor Show in Open Two Seater form. Tests on the Ostend-Jabbeke motorway in Belgium saw the XK120 reaching 126.448 mph, an extraordinary speed for the time. The Fixed Head Coupe joined the original roadster in 1951, possessing the same feline power and grace propelled by the famous 3,442 CC DOHC straight six powerplant. With that six-cylinder symphony under the long hood, plus the walnut-trimmed leather interior with roll-up windows and improved heater, the Fixed Head Coupe was a popular addition to the line, especially in Europe and the United States. Fast, beautiful, and successful on the racetrack, to many the Jaguar XK120 was the ultimate production sports car of the 1950s and remains as popular today as they were when introduced over 70 years ago.
