Description

Exclusivity, elegance, and handcrafted details—that was the 1950 Chrysler Town & Country Newport Coupe. Chrysler advertising called it a “thoroughbred” and it was unique among American automobiles. Over the standard Newport steel body craftsmen added genuine ash wood trim. Part of the top tier C49N New Yorker model, the Town & Country Newport Coupe represented the rarest, most costly of the series. Added to the line on May 23, 1950, just 698 were built, priced starting at a princely $4,003. Chrysler’s smooth 135 hp “Spitfire” straight-8 323.5 cu-in engine drives a 3-speed Fluid Drive semi-automatic transmission. Being Chrysler’s flagship car, it’s fully equipped with spotlight, fog lights, pushbutton AM radio, heater, and clock.

The ash trim contrasts beautifully with the Black paint, with saddle leather and cream upholstery interior. The Town & Country Newport Coupe was produced only this year, and 1950 would also be the last of the wood-trimmed Town & Country line. Imagine this fully restored Chrysler gliding the roads among the historic oceanside mansions of its namesake: Newport, Rhode Island.
