Description

OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE

Roadmaster — has an automobile ever had a more fitting name? The Buick Roadmaster dates back to 1936, but when reintroduced after World War II in 1946 it was absolutely imposing: large, long, low, and luxurious. A major update in 1949 included a much larger two-piece, curved glass windshield. That same year Buick introduced “VentiPorts,” the design feature better known as “portholes.” Buick styling chief Ned Nickles had the idea of adding the vents on the front fenders, like the exhausts of a World War II fighter plane. Combined with the bombsight-style hood ornament, VentiPorts put the driver in the cockpit of a street-bound fighter. Then there was the power of Buick’s 320 cu-in OHV straight-eight, a fine engine for its time but that couldn’t compare with the smooth delivery of a Cadillac 425 cu-in V8 from 1977 – 79, which is what propels this Roadmaster. There’s no camouflage on this street fighter, it's finished in Metallic Purple. Add lights in the VentiPorts and synchronized airhorns and this 1949 Buick is an imposing master of the road.
