Description
Cadillac boasted its 1947 Series 62 was “America’s most distinguished motor car.” The second generation of the Series 62, which ran from 1942 to 1947, was noted for its elegant styling and advanced features. This era was significant as it represented Cadillac’s return to civilian car production after World War II, satisfying the pent-up demand for new automobiles. Demand was so great Cadillac ended the model year with 96,000 unfilled orders for their various models.
Under the hood, the 1947 Series 62 convertible was powered by a smooth 346 cubic-inch V8 engine, producing 150 hp. This engine was paired with Hydra-Matic Drive automatic transmission, which was cutting-edge at the time. The car’s generous 129-inch wheelbase contributed to its smooth ride.
The exterior design of the 1947 Series 62 was characterized by its sleek lines, chrome accents, and a distinctive “eggcrate” grille. Inside, the car offered a luxurious cabin with leather interior trim, power top, and Hydro-Lectric window lifts as standard, as were distinctive “sombrero” wheel covers used for the first time. The manufacturer declared, “In all Cadillac history, there has never been such a perfect blending of quality and practicality as is offered in the 1947 Cadillac Series 62.”
