1937 Buick Special Series 40 Four-Door Sedan Plain Back Hot Rod
Description
As Buick solidified its position at the top end of the General Motors hierarchy just below Cadillac, the 1936 model line was entirely renamed to reflect the advancements made over the outgoing 1935 models. The entry-level Series 40 became the Special and was backed by a refined and robust overhead valve eight-cylinder engine in a 122 inch wheelbase chassis from 1937. The Special also featured a Knee Action independent front suspension and hydraulic brakes for safe, stable handling. In many ways, the Buick Special, with its full-size eight-cylinder engine in a mid-size rigid girder-type body, defined the muscle car formula decades before it was popularized, making it an excellent platform for custom hot rod builds like the example on offer.
