1935 Ford Model 48 Deluxe Roadster Walk Around and Ride Along
Description
Times were tough during the Great Depression. Cars like the 1935 Fords kept America on wheels with reasonable prices, comfortable interiors, and a bit of style.
The 1935 lineup was touted by the Ford Motor Company as having “Greater Beauty, Greater Comfort, and Greater Style.” Especially if the 1935 Ford was the Model 48 Deluxe Roadster, which was “More than ever, a car that expresses the spirit of youth.” Costing $550 new, the two-door three-passenger Roadster was available only in the Deluxe trim that added dual horns, chrome windshield, right side taillight, leather seat, and paint on the instrument panel and window moldings. Yet it also had the second lowest price of any Ford that year.
Power was by Ford’s famous 221 cu-in flathead V8 engine producing 85 horsepower. It was the hot setup in 1935, and it was the Indianapolis 500 pace car that year with Edsel Ford driving. That performance was noted by someone else, as bank robber Clyde Barrow (of Bonnie and Clyde fame) once wrote a letter to Henry Ford praising the V8 because its acceleration and speed made it a great getaway car. Now this restored 1935 Ford Deluxe Roadster is ready for the next getaway.
