Description

One of the most significant automobiles ever produced by the Ford Motor Company, the 1934 Ford was unveiled with updated styling and a robust flathead V8 powerplant. It was showcased at the Century of Progress Exposition in Chicago, boosting Ford’s sales during a challenging economic period. Offered with a variety of body styles and Standard and De Luxe trim levels, the De Luxe models added two-tone paint, chrome exterior accents, interior wood accents, and additional lights.

Power was by Ford’s famous 221 cu-in flathead V8 engine, now producing 85 horsepower. That performance was noted by police forces across the nation — and by criminals. Infamous bank robber Clyde Barrow of Bonnie and Clyde fame even praised the car in a letter to Henry Ford, highlighting its speed and reliability.

The ’34 Ford Roadster soon became a canvas for many customization and hot-rodding projects. As a result, it has become much rarer to find examples restored to their original specification, especially one from noted Ford restoration expert Dennis Carpenter.
