Story

This Duster was delivered to Glenwood Motors, a Plymouth dealership, in Riverside, California. Mr. Stan Franklin purchased the car on December 26, 1972. He was assigned to the Civil Engineering Squadron at March Air Force Base. In late 1973 he was transferred to RAF Upper Heyford in England.

Mr. Franklin delivered his car to the Port of Long Beach Calif, where it began its voyage down the Pacific Ocean and thru the Panama Canal, up the Atlantic to the Port of Felixstowe, on the east coast of England, just northeast of London.

The “AA ” badge on the grill stands for the Automobile Association, a car club in the UK in which Mr. Franklin was a member. Driving a left-hand drive car on the opposite side of the road was a bit of an adjustment, so he joined this car club.

In the spring of 1974, I transferred to RAF Heyford along with my wife. Later that year Mr . Franklin put the car for sale, at that time it had only 14000 miles on the odometer when we purchased it from him.

My wife and I drove it all over the English countryside until it was time to return to the states in early 1977. I drove the car back to Felixstowe for the return trip back across the Atlantic to the port of Bayonne in New Jersey. In March, we arrived back at McGuire AFB, picked the car up at the port, and drove it to upstate New York where it has been ever since.

In the mid-eighties, it was put into storage for some 28 years. The restoration process began in October 2014 and was completed two years later.
