Description
After nearly 15 years of the fourth-generation Corvette, GM launched the most radically new version of America's sports car since its debut in 1953. The new C5 was lighter and stiffer than the C4, thanks to hydroformed frame rails. It featured a transaxle that improved weight distribution and enhanced interior space. Drive-by-wire throttle and variable effort power steering were other new features. However, the most important aspect of the C5 Corvette was the introduction of the all-aluminum LS V8 engine. Chevrolet offered a number of limited-production models, including the 50th Anniversary model in 2003, celebrating half a century of Corvette production.
