1965 Plymouth Belvedere II Hardtop Start Up
Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
Positioned as Plymouth’s low-cost entrant into the mid-sized market, the Belvedere rode a 116-inch wheelbase that it shared with the Savoy and Fury. True to Detroit’s established formula, a variety of body styles were offered, including two- and four-door sedans, a two-door hardtop, and a four-door station wagon.
Fresh off a victory in the 1964 Daytona 500, in which a young driver named Richard Petty won with a new big-block 426-cubic-inch Hemi V8 under the hood, Plymouth shuffled the deck in 1965 by essentially rebranding the Savoy as the Belvedere I and turning the former Belvedere into the Belvedere II.
This 1965 model, however, is hardly the Belvedere II it was when it rolled out of the factory with a 225-cubic-inch inline six engine. Its original powerplant has been swapped with a 420-horsepower 440 cu-in V8, and it also received a three-speed TorqueFlite A727 automatic transmission, dash-mounted Super Pro tachometer, below-dash SunPro gauges, and Cooper Cobra G/T tires.
