Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
The legendary Roadmaster nameplate returned to the Buick lineup in 1991 and brought with it enormous proportions, a plush cabin, and a big V8 harkening back to the pre-oil crisis land yachts of the 1950s and ’60s. In Estate Wagon form, the new Roadmaster offered seating for eight, thanks to a collapsible rear-facing third seat, 92.4 cubic feet of storage space, and a plethora of standard luxury equipment.
From 1994 on, the Roadmaster was powered by a version of the Corvette's 5.7-liter V8 engine, offering 80 additional horsepower while also improving fuel economy. Production came to an end in 1996, marking the last full-size, body-on-frame, rear-wheel drive station wagon produced by an American automaker.
“This elephantine throwback to an earlier age of family wagons with wood paneling and rear-facing kid seats seemed archaic on arrival in 1991 ...,” Aaron Robinson wrote in Hagerty's 2019 Bull Market List. “[However, it was] nonetheless streamlined for the modern age, riding on GM’s giant B-body platform and basically being a state police cruiser underneath.”
